Impact Investing Goes Central

Sweden divested itself from divesting bonds issued by Canadian and Australian states for not taking sufficient action on climate change. Both countries have one of the highest greenhouse gas emissions per GDP. This is one of the first cases of a central bank nudging countries to be more active in climate mitigation and adaption using monetary tools. Sovereign bonds buying and selling are one of the tools used by Central Banks in regulating money supply within the system.
