Today is World Heritage Day, a day the world celebrates the shared wealth of humanity. Art and Culture symbolize the glory of our past and present, a harbinger of our roots and building blocks of the future. Every year a focus theme is celebrated, this year, the theme is Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures.
The International Day for Monuments and Sites was proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on 18 April 1982. ICOMOS, a leading non-governmental agency in heritage perseveration associated with UNESCO, defines Heritage—cultural and natural, tangible and intangible as an evolving resource that supports identity, memory, and ‘sense of place’, and has a crucial role in achieving sustainable development. The mission of the collaborative agency is to promote the conservation, protection, use and enhancement of monuments, building complexes and sites.
