On World Heritage Day, the world celebrates the shared wealth of humanity. Art and Culture symbolize the glory of our past and present, a precursor of our roots and building blocks of the future. Every year a theme is celebrated; this year, it’s Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures. The International Council on Monuments and Sites proposed the International Day on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on 18 April 1982. ICOMOS, a leading non-governmental agency in heritage perseveration associated with UNESCO, defines heritage as cultural and natural, tangible and intangible, as an evolving resource that supports identity, memory, and ‘sense of place’ and has a crucial role in achieving successful sustainable development. The mission of the collaborative agency is to promote the conservation, protection, use, and enhancement of monuments, building complexes, and sites.
