The death of George Floyd, an African American at the hands of Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, caused universal anguish among Americans. George’s death brought a national wide condemnation of the systemic racism present among the American police. Derek was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter for suffocating the deceased while pinning him to the ground. According to Doctor’s report, George died of underlying conditions brought in due to the suffocation. (This is perceived as highly controversial by many in America). A video released by the media shows a poignant and candid view of George’s arrest by the police officers, ultimately leading to Floyd’s death. A detailed video of his arrest on The middle Road Twitter handle.
According to a video posted by Inside Edition, Officer Derek Chauvin Worked at the same nightclub as George Floyd for many years. Further, the police department had received 17 complaints against Derek and all, but one was closed with no disciplinary action. The outrage spread across multiple US cities leading to numerous violent protests with a curfew imposed across many major cities. The US already has the highest COVID-19 cases globally and is now profoundly embroiled in national-wide unrest; the situation can take a deadlier turn. From Rodney King to George Floyd, it’s been three decades of underlying brutality within the American police with a penchant for African Americans. With streets full of protesters, the writing on the wall is clear; it’s time Americans had enough. The middle Road urges Americans to be calm.
