Everything Must Go

The middle Road highly recommends this light-hearted comedy-drama starring Will Ferrell, as it showcases one of his most understated and finest performances to date—a significant departure from his typically blistering and sometimes over-the-top roles. The story revolves around Nick Halsey (Will Ferrell), who loses his job due to a misdemeanor tied to his alcoholism. To compound his problems, he finds himself locked out of his house by his estranged wife. The narrative spans the next few days as Will grapples with his life, slowly coming to terms with the harsh realities before him. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Arcadia, Arizona, Nick wrestles with his alcohol addiction despite his misgivings. This easy-paced movie paints these pivotal days as a defining period in his life, during which he forges an unlikely friendship with his endearingly charming pregnant neighbor, Samantha (Rebecca Hall), and an enticing young boy Kenny Loftus (Wallace). The film is filled with humorous anecdotes, many of which carry underlying philosophical themes. As Nick’s life spirals into chaos, particularly when he discovers his wife’s infidelity with Frank Garcia (Michael Peña), he is forced to confront the stark reality that surrounds him. This movie takes viewers on a journey through humor, introspection, and personal growth, making it a must-see for fans of Will Ferrell and those seeking a thought-provoking yet comedic exploration of life’s ups and downs. A middle-of-the-road movie, it neither delivers outright hilarity nor dullness, maintaining an even tempo that keeps you engaged as the story unfolds. As Nick matures and seeks to rectify his follies, he displays his large-hearted self, asking for forgiveness from his wife. A cameo from Laura Dern does not disappoint, this is one of Will’s finest performances, well-acted through memorable scenes. An excellent movie to watch, it is a gem that justifies any price tag. If you want to go easy on yourself, and simply relax and chill for a while with a no-brainer, then ‘Everything Must Go’ is the movie for you.

Before watching with family, it is highly suggested that you consider its ratings and suitability.
